Conoce las enfermedades que pueden padecer los niños/as por la ola de calor


Dolores de cabeza, mareos, debilidad, cambios de humor, malestares estomacales, vómitos y desmayos son algunos de los desagradables síntomas que podemos experimentar con el calor excesivo.

Temperaturas sobre 30 grados dieron la bienvenida al verano. Lo cierto es que las altas temperaturas afectan a las personas, especialmente a niños/as y adultos mayores, quienes pueden ver desmedrada su salud por esta ola de calor.

La Dra. Nelly Baeza, coordinadora del Programa de Salud Pública de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad Central, explica que el cuerpo reduce su temperatura a través de la sudoración. “Cuando estamos sometidos prolongadamente a calor, nos deshidratamos y todos los procesos internos del organismo se ven afectados, por ello el calor excesivo y prolongado puede incluso provocar la muerte”, asegura la facultativa.

Los síntomas, añade la Dra. Baeza, son graduales y de todos los sistemas: dolores de cabeza, mareos, debilidad, cambios de humor como la irritación, confusión o inhabilidad de pensar claramente, dolores de estómago, vómitos, orina disminuida o de color oscuro, desmayos, piel pálida y pegajosa.verano

Entre las enfermedades que se pueden presentar están:

1. Golpe de calor: una enfermedad peligrosa para la vida en la cual la temperatura corporal puede subir por encima de los 41°C en minutos; los síntomas pueden incluir piel seca, pulso rápido y fuerte, y mareos.

2. Agotamiento por calor: una enfermedad que puede preceder al golpe de calor; los síntomas son sudoración profusa, respiración rápida y pulso acelerado y débil.

3. Calambres por calor: dolores o espasmos musculares que ocurren durante el ejercicio intenso.

4. Erupciones cutáneas por calor: irritación de la piel por exceso de sudoración

Asimismo, los niños pequeños y los adultos mayores son más vulnerables al calor porque tienen mecanismos de compensación insuficientes, “los menores por inmadurez y al final de la vida por el proceso degenerativo, además por la dependencia para hidratarse de un tercero que le provea de agua”, agrega la encargada del Programa de Salud Pública de la Universidad Central.


Entre las recomendaciones personales para pasar los días de calor están: mantenerse a la sombra en lugares frescos; usar ropa ligera, la menos posible; beber líquidos cada 15 minutos, ojalá fríos; comer liviano, de preferencia platos fríos; descansar durante las horas de calor, dormir siesta, ducha agua fría o templada.

En los hogares es necesario generar estrategias para mantener fresca la casa, para ello es importante tener buenas cortinas, por la mañana ventilar y dejar entrar aire fresco, luego cerrar todo; mantenerse con ventiladores a la sombra y volver a abrir en la tarde-noche para refrescar nuevamente; proteger las ventanas por fuera ayuda a que el calor no entre al inmueble.

Si comienza con síntomas similares a los descritos, tiene que consultar en un servicio de urgencia para que le ayuden y diagnostiquen adecuadamente.
